Burn the flight line. Be gone by dawn.

You lead a three-jeep patrol of L Detachment across the sand sea at night, twin Vickers K guns bolted to every mount. Drive onto the airfield, wreck the aircraft where they stand, and run for the wadi before first light finds you in the open.

What you actually do

A raid, not a shooting gallery

Everything is timed against dawn. Speed keeps you alive, but so does knowing when to stop shooting and leave.

The patrol

Two wingmen who fight on their own

2 Troop and 3 Troop hold station off your flanks, pick their own targets and take their own damage — and they carry that damage into the next operation. Lose a jeep and you fight the rest of the campaign shorthanded unless a replacement comes up at the supply dump.

A sector plan in the corner shows the flight line, the flak pits and the wadi you have to reach.

The risk

Searchlights that hunt you

Beams sweep the dispersals, and if one catches your patrol it locks on and tracks you. The field goes to alarm, the flak crews start seeing you from much further out, and the only fixes are to shoot the lamp out or get beyond its reach.

Every wreck you leave burns for the rest of the raid — useful light for you, and for them.

Between raids

One load from the supply dump

Survive the night and you fall back to a desert leaguer, where the Long Range Desert Group can spare exactly one item before you move on — sand tyres, water-cooled gun jackets, a replacement jeep for a troop you lost. Choose against the airfield you are about to hit, not the one you just burned.

Score, aircraft destroyed and jeeps still running carry across all five operations.

The campaign

Five airfields, in the order they happened

Each operation gives you less darkness, a bigger quota and a heavier garrison than the one before it.
